The Score Mac
The Score is a Quicken/GnuCash-style spreadsheet view for managing transactions on macOS. It provides fast inline editing, keyboard-driven workflow, and a running balance — designed for power users who prefer a desktop-class experience over mobile-style navigation.
Each transaction shows the payee, category icon, amount, and running account balance.
Originally: Account Register
Opening The Score
Navigate to any account and The Score loads automatically on macOS. Each account has its own Score showing only that account’s transactions.
Layout
The Score displays five columns:
| Column | Width | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Date | Fixed | Transaction date |
| Payee | Flexible | Merchant or payee name (fills remaining space) |
| Category | Fixed | Assigned Setlist category |
| Amount | Fixed | Transaction amount (negative = expense) |
| Balance | Fixed | Running balance after this transaction |
Rows alternate between plain and subtly shaded backgrounds for readability.
Sorting
Click any column header (Date, Payee, Category, or Amount) to sort by that column. Click the same header again to reverse the sort direction. An arrow indicator shows the current sort direction. The Balance column is not sortable since it’s computed from the transaction order.
Viewing Transactions
Each row shows the transaction in display mode by default:
- Date formatted as a short date
- Payee name
- Category name (or “Uncategorized” in gray)
- Amount, color-coded: green for income (positive), primary color for expenses (negative)
- Running balance
Inline Editing
Single-click any transaction row to enter edit mode. The row transforms into editable fields:
- Date: Date picker
- Payee: Text field
- Amount: Text field (numeric input)
- Category: Dropdown picker showing all categories grouped by parent
Navigating Fields
- Tab: Move to the next field (Date -> Payee -> Amount)
- Enter / Return: Commit changes and exit edit mode
- Escape: Cancel edits and revert to original values
When you change the payee name, Coincert checks if other transactions share the old payee name. If matches are found, a Stage Names sheet appears offering to:
- Rename all matching transactions to the new name
- Create a Stage Name rule to automatically rename future imports
Amount Editing
When editing the amount, only valid decimal characters (digits, period, minus sign) are accepted. The account balance is automatically adjusted for the difference between the old and new amount.
Quick-Entry Row
A permanent entry row sits at the bottom of The Score for rapid transaction entry:
- Date: Defaults to today
- Payee: Type the merchant name
- Category: Optional — select from the dropdown or choose “New Category…” to create one inline
- Amount: Enter the amount (positive numbers are automatically converted to negative for expenses)
Press Tab to move between fields. The row resets after each entry, keeping focus on the payee field so you can immediately enter another transaction.
Keyboard Shortcuts
| Shortcut | Action |
|---|---|
| Command+N | Jump to the quick-entry row and start a new transaction |
| Command+Delete | Delete the currently selected (editing) transaction |
| Command+I | Open the detail sheet for the currently selected transaction |
Deleting a transaction shows a confirmation dialog before proceeding. The account balance is automatically reversed.
Detail Sheet
Double-click any transaction row (or press Command+I while editing) to open the full detail sheet. The detail view provides access to all transaction fields including memo/notes, attachments, and the complete edit history. Changes made in the detail sheet are reflected in The Score immediately.
Auto-Tune
When The Score loads or new transactions are added, Coincert’s Auto-Tune categorization engine runs automatically in the background. Transactions without a category are analyzed and assigned one based on:
- Previous manual categorizations of the same payee
- Pattern matching against known merchant names
Running Balance
The Balance column shows a cumulative running total. For asset accounts (checking, savings), it starts from the account’s opening balance. For liability accounts (credit cards), it starts from zero. The balance recalculates whenever transactions are added, edited, or deleted.
Search
Click the magnifying glass icon in the toolbar (or use the search shortcut) to open the transaction search view, which searches across all accounts.
Import
Click the + menu in the toolbar to access:
- Add Transaction: Opens the standard transaction entry form
- Import Transactions: Opens the file importer for OFX, QFX, or CSV files
Imported transactions appear in The Score and are auto-categorized by Auto-Tune on arrival.
