Playlist
Playlist is Coincert’s subscription tracking dashboard. It automatically detects recurring charges in your transaction history, calculates your total monthly subscription spend, and alerts you when prices change. Think of it as a living inventory of every subscription and recurring service you pay for.
Playlist automatically detects recurring charges and tracks your subscriptions in one view.
How It Works
- Coincert scans your transaction history for recurring patterns — charges from the same merchant at similar amounts on a regular schedule.
- Detected subscriptions appear as suggestions for you to confirm or dismiss.
- Confirmed subscriptions are tracked on the dashboard with cost, billing interval, trend indicators, and price change history.
- Pitch Alerts notify you when a subscription’s price increases or decreases.
Auto-Detection
Coincert identifies subscriptions by analyzing your transactions from the last 12 months. The detection algorithm looks for:
- 3 or more matching transactions from the same merchant.
- Consistent amounts (low variation between charges).
- Regular intervals (weekly, biweekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, or yearly).
Each suggestion is assigned a confidence score based on three factors:
| Factor | Weight | What It Measures |
|---|---|---|
| Interval consistency | 40% | How regularly the charges occur |
| Amount consistency | 40% | How similar the charge amounts are (coefficient of variation) |
| Occurrence count | 20% | Total number of matching transactions (5+ is highest confidence) |
Only suggestions with a confidence score of 60% or higher appear on the dashboard. The confidence percentage is displayed on each suggestion card.
Confirming a Suggestion
When a subscription suggestion appears in the “Detected Items” section:
- Tap Confirm to add it to your active Playlist. The recurring rule is saved and tracked going forward.
- Tap Not a subscription to dismiss it. Dismissed suggestions are remembered and will not reappear.
Manually Adding a Subscription
If Coincert does not detect a subscription automatically (for example, a new service with fewer than 3 charges), you can add it manually:
- Tap the + button in the toolbar.
- Enter the subscription name, charge amount, and billing interval (weekly, every 2 weeks, monthly, quarterly, every 6 months, or yearly).
- Tap Save.
Manual subscriptions are tracked with 100% confidence.
Subscription Dashboard
The dashboard organizes your subscriptions into several sections:
Summary Header
At the top of the dashboard you see:
- Monthly subscription cost: Your total monthly spend across all active subscriptions, displayed in large bold text.
- Count and cost: e.g., “$127.43/month across 8 subscriptions”.
- Annual projection: An estimated yearly total (e.g., ”~$1,529.16/year”).
All non-monthly subscriptions are normalized to a monthly equivalent for these totals. For example, a $120/year subscription contributes $10/month.
Detected Items
Subscription suggestions from auto-detection appear here. Each card shows the merchant name, estimated amount, billing interval, and confidence percentage. You can confirm or dismiss each suggestion. A “Scan” button in the section header re-runs detection on demand.
Pitch Alerts
Active price change alerts are shown here. See the Pitch Alert section below for details.
Possibly Cancelled
Subscriptions where no charge has been detected for 2 or more billing cycles are moved here automatically. Each row shows the merchant name and last charged date. You can tap “Still active?” to move the subscription back to the active list if it was flagged incorrectly.
Active Subscriptions
Your confirmed, active subscriptions are listed here with the following information per row:
- Name: The merchant or service name.
- Amount and interval: e.g., “$15.99 Monthly”.
- Monthly equivalent: For non-monthly subscriptions, the approximate monthly cost is shown in parentheses (e.g., ”(~$10.00/mo)”).
- Last charged date: The date of the most recent matching transaction.
- Trend indicator: An arrow showing whether the price has gone up, down, stayed stable, or is too new to determine.
Swipe actions on each subscription:
- Cancel (swipe left, red): Marks the subscription as cancelled and moves it to the Cancelled section.
- Pause / Resume (swipe left, orange): Temporarily pauses or resumes tracking.
Cancelled Subscriptions
Previously cancelled subscriptions appear here. Swipe left and tap Reactivate to move one back to the active list.
Monthly Trend Chart
A bar chart at the bottom of the dashboard shows your total subscription spending for each of the last 6 months, making it easy to spot spending trends at a glance.
Sorting
Tap the sort button (up/down arrows) in the toolbar to change how active subscriptions are ordered:
| Sort Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Highest Cost | Most expensive subscriptions first (default) |
| Lowest Cost | Cheapest subscriptions first |
| Recently Charged | Most recently billed subscriptions first |
| Alphabetical | A to Z by name |
Subscription Detail Screen
Tap any active subscription to open its detail screen, which includes:
Header
- Subscription name, amount, and billing interval.
- Monthly equivalent cost.
- Trend indicator with context (e.g., “+6% vs 3 months ago” or “Stable pricing”).
- Last charged date.
Status
Shows the current status badge (Active, Cancelled, Possibly Cancelled, or Paused) and relevant action buttons:
- Active: “Mark as Cancelled” button.
- Possibly Cancelled: “Still Active” button.
- Cancelled: “Reactivate” button.
Cancellation Link
You can save a cancellation URL for each subscription (the webpage where you can cancel the service). This section shows:
- If a URL is saved: A link button that opens the cancellation page in your browser, plus an “Edit cancellation link” option.
- If no URL is saved: An “Add cancellation link” button with a note explaining its purpose.
Pitch Alert History
A chronological list of all detected price changes for this subscription. Each entry shows:
- The date of the change.
- Old amount (struck through) and new amount.
- Percentage change badge (orange for increases, green for decreases).
- For the most recent increase, the annualized cost impact (e.g., “This increase costs $24.00/year more”), calculated based on the subscription’s billing interval.
Summary (6 Months)
- Total spent in the last 6 months.
- Average charge amount.
- Number of charges.
- Number of Pitch Alerts.
Transaction Timeline Chart
A line chart plotting each charge amount over time, making it easy to see price changes visually.
Transaction History
A list of all matching transactions from the last 6 months, sorted newest first. Each row shows the date, memo (if available), and amount. Amounts that differ from the expected charge by more than the tolerance threshold are highlighted in orange to flag potential price changes. Tap any transaction to view its full details.
Remove from Playlist
At the bottom, a “Remove from Playlist” button cancels subscription tracking for this service. The underlying recurring rule is kept for bill reminders but subscription-specific tracking (price alerts, dashboard listing) stops.
Pitch Alert
A Pitch Alert is a notification that fires when Coincert detects a price change in one of your tracked subscriptions.
How Price Changes Are Detected
Each time the dashboard loads, Coincert compares recent transaction amounts against the expected amount for each subscription. A price change is flagged when:
- The difference between the latest charge and the expected amount exceeds the greater of 5% of the expected amount or $2.00.
- The change has not already been recorded in the subscription’s price history.
When a change is detected:
- It is added to the subscription’s Pitch Alert history.
- The subscription’s expected amount is updated to the new price.
- A Pitch Alert card appears on the dashboard.
- A notification is scheduled (if notifications are authorized).
Pitch Alert Card
Each Pitch Alert card on the dashboard shows:
- Direction indicator: An orange warning icon for increases, a green checkmark for decreases.
- Subscription name.
- Old and new amounts: The old price is shown with a strikethrough, followed by an arrow and the new price.
- Percentage change badge: e.g., “+12%” in orange or “-8%” in green.
- Annual impact: How much more (or less) you will pay per year because of this change (e.g., ”+$24.00/year”).
Pitch Alert Actions
For price increases, three action buttons appear:
| Action | What It Does |
|---|---|
| Keep | Acknowledges the increase and dismisses the alert. |
| Review alternatives | Intended for exploring alternative services. |
| Add cancellation link | Opens the cancellation URL editor for this subscription. |
For price decreases, two action buttons appear:
| Action | What It Does |
|---|---|
| Great! | Acknowledges the decrease and dismisses the alert. |
| View details | Navigates to the subscription detail screen. |
Pitch Alert Notifications
When a Pitch Alert is generated, Coincert schedules a local notification:
- For increases: “Pitch Alert: [Service] price changed” with a message showing the old price, new price, billing interval, and annual impact.
- For decreases: “Pitch Alert: [Service] price dropped” with a message showing the savings.
Notifications are batched at low priority to avoid interrupting you for non-urgent changes.
Subscription Statuses
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Active | The subscription is being tracked and charges are expected. |
| Paused | Tracking is temporarily suspended (you toggled Pause). |
| Possibly Cancelled | No charge detected for 2+ billing cycles. Coincert flags it automatically. |
| Cancelled | You explicitly marked the subscription as cancelled. |
